W-2 Employees Working From Home NOT Eligible for Home Office Deduction

During these past 6 months, many people have been working from home for the first time, and many people are asking, “Do I get a tax deduction since I am working from home/remotely?”
The short answer is: No.
While the home office deduction is still available to self-employed taxpayers and independent contractors, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act suspended the business use of home deduction from 2018 through 2025 for employees who receive a paycheck or a W-2 exclusively from an employer.
W-2 Employee are not eligible for the deduction, even if they are currently working from home and have been since March 2020.
